  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • For the Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup heavy cream plus more if needed

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven and prepare cake pans.
  • Mix dry ingredients in one bowl and wet ingredients in another.
  • Combine and stir in boiling water.
  • Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes.
  • Cool cakes and prepare frosting.
  • Assemble and frost the cake.
  • Slice and enjoy!
