French Onion Meatloaf is a savory and comforting twist on a classic favorite. Juicy, well-seasoned ground beef is combined with caramelized onions, melted cheese, and savory seasonings, creating a rich and flavorful dish that brings the warmth and depth of French onion soup to every bite.

- 1 lb ground beef 80-85% lean
- 2 large onions thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 packet French onion seasoning mix
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese divided
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish optional
Caramelize Onions: Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 20-25 minutes until golden and caramelized. Set aside to cool.
Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, mix ground beef, half the caramelized onions, seasoning mix, breadcrumbs, egg, and half the cheese. Season lightly.
Form and Bake: Shape mixture into a loaf and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 40-45 minutes.
Top with Cheese: Add remaining onions and cheese on top, then bake for 5-7 more minutes.
