Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 cup steamed broccoli florets (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Method

  1. Cook the rice: Start the rice first according to package directions so it's ready by the time the turkey finishes, usually 15-18 minutes.
  2. Heat the skillet: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers, about 1 minute.
  3. Brown the turkey: Add the ground turkey and break it into small crumbles. Cook undisturbed for a minute or two, then stir occasionally until no pink remains and the edges turn golden, about 6-7 minutes.
  4. Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook just until fragrant, about 30 seconds, stirring constantly so it doesn't burn.
  5. Mix the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and the cornstarch slurry until smooth.
  6. Glaze the turkey: Pour the sauce over the turkey and stir to coat. Simmer, stirring often, until the sauce thickens into a glossy glaze that clings to the meat, 2-3 minutes.
  7. Season to taste: Taste the turkey and stir in red pepper flakes if you want more heat, adjusting with a splash more vinegar if needed.
  8. Assemble the bowls: Divide the rice among bowls and top with the honey garlic turkey. Add steamed broccoli if using.
  9. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle each bowl with green onions and sesame seeds, then serve immediately while the glaze is still warm and glossy.
