Maple Cookies With Maple Icing are delightfully soft, chewy treats infused with the rich, warm flavor of real maple syrup. Each bite is a sweet and cozy taste of fall, made even better with a luscious maple icing that drapes over the top, adding an extra layer of flavor. These cookies aren’t overly sweet, allowing the natural depth of maple syrup to shine. They’re perfect for enjoying with a cup of tea or coffee on a crisp autumn afternoon, but truly, they’re delicious any time of year.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp maple extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • For the Maple Icing:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1-2 tbsp milk as needed for consistency

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls: For combining dry and wet ingredients.
  • Electric Mixer: To cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  • Baking Sheets: For baking the cookies evenly.
  • Parchment Paper or Silicone Mats: To prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  • Wire Cooling Rack: For cooling the cookies before icing them.
  • Spoon or Spatula: For spreading the icing on the cookies.

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in maple syrup and maple extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
