Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes

Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes are a deliciously savory twist on the classic sloppy joe. They’re hearty, loaded with seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and sautéed onions and bell peppers, all served on a warm, toasted bun. It’s not heavy or overly complicated either.

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Baking sheet (for toasting buns)
  • Cheese grater (if shredding cheese)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 6-8 slices provolone cheese
  • 6-8 sandwich buns toasted
  • Olive oil for sautéing

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion and bell pepper until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Layer provolone cheese over the beef mixture, cover with a lid, and let the cheese melt. Stir to combine.
  • Toast sandwich buns on a baking sheet or in a skillet.
  • Spoon the beef mixture onto the toasted buns and serve immediately.
