Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes
Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes are a deliciously savory twist on the classic sloppy joe. They’re hearty, loaded with seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, and sautéed onions and bell peppers, all served on a warm, toasted bun. It’s not heavy or overly complicated either.
Large skillet
Spatula or wooden spoon
Measuring cups and spoons
Cutting board
Sharp knife
Baking sheet (for toasting buns)
Cheese grater (if shredding cheese)
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 large onion diced
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 6-8 slices provolone cheese
- 6-8 sandwich buns toasted
- Olive oil for sautéing
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat and set aside.
In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion and bell pepper until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Layer provolone cheese over the beef mixture, cover with a lid, and let the cheese melt. Stir to combine.
Toast sandwich buns on a baking sheet or in a skillet.
Spoon the beef mixture onto the toasted buns and serve immediately.
