- Cake:
- 1 1/2 cups cake flour or 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour minus 3 tbsp, plus 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
- 3/4 cup milk room temperature
- 4 large egg whites room temperature
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar sifted
- 2-3 tbsp milk or heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat butter until creamy; add sugar until fluffy.
Mix in egg whites and vanilla.
Add flour mixture and milk alternately. Pour batter into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
Cool completely, then frost with buttercream.
